How our story began
Sumter County Water Authority was established in 1973. Its architect and first director, Bill Nixon, helped create a way to bring drinking water to the county’s rural residents.
From those beginnings, the authority grew to serve approximately 3,800 customers. Our work remains tied to the homes and communities that depend on water every day.
The system behind your tap
SCWA’s published system information describes three wells and eight storage tanks, with a combined storage capacity of 1,875,000 gallons.
Connections with neighboring systems support the wider community and provide emergency connections.
Accountable to our community
A three-member board, appointed by the Sumter County Board of Commissioners, governs the authority. The board sets rates and approves the annual budget; the manager oversees day-to-day operations.
